Resurrecting a Passionate Derangement

Resurrection, a play in three acts, was staged at the Clurman Theater on 42nd Street, New York City, in the summer of 2010. It was produced by Diverse City, Inc. and directed by Michael Sexton, and starred Ching Valdes, Victor Lirio, Tiffany Villarin and Alexis Camins.
In a way the play's title is apt, because this was the first by Eric Gamalinda ever produced on stage. He won first prize in the Philippines' Palanca Literary Awards for a one-act play, entitled Anatomy of a Passionate Derangement, in 1980. But original plays written in English were hardly ever produced in the Philippines (see interview), and although Gamalinda kept writing plays on his own, it wasn't until he moved to New York that he found an audience for his work. He is currently working on a number of new works for performance, including a monologue and a short film.
